The Natural History Museum
The museum houses 68 million specimens of animals,
plants, minerals, rocks, fossils. It was first opened to the public in 1881. It
was a department of the British museum but its collection grew and it moved to
a new building. Now it is famous all over the world for its beautiful
galleries. The visitors can enjoy exhibitions about the natural world:
dinosaurs, meteorites, cosmic mineralogy, origin of species, human biology,
ecology etc. There are 1.7million visitors to the Museum each year. It is also
a very important scientific center. More than 300 scientists study the
diversity of nature in 5 departments.
